Kulu Valley (Kulu city – Kullu)

FROM KULL TO MANALA

On the road connecting Kulu with the distance of 42 km Manali there are many villages, which may be of interest to tourists. There are two roads between Kulu and Manali. First – more convenient – runs along the west bank of the Beas. Much more difficult is the winding and rarely used road on the eastern side of the river. Tourists who decide to take this route will have the opportunity to visit the beautiful castle in Nagara.

Rajson

Rajson is the perfect base for excursions in the surrounding area. The campsite is located on the river bank, at a distance of just 8 km north of Kulu. The campsite is situated on the premises 14 double cabins, which can be rented for 150 INR. Reservations are made at the Kulu Tourist Office.

Katran

The area of ​​Katrajnu is considered the widest section of the Kulu Valley, a town halfway between Kulu and Manali, at the foot of the Baragarh peak (3325 m). About two kilometers away, to the left of the main road, there is a trout farm.

Accommodation

Instead of staying in crowded Kulu or Manali, let's live in Katrajna, for example in the small Rest House or in the nice HPTDC tourist home called Hotel Apple Blossom. Overnight in a double room costs money 200 INR, and in a five-person dormitory 45 INR. More wealthy tourists can go to the expensive Span Resort (83140), right on the river.
Staying in a double room costs money 3950 INR (full board is included in the price).

Nagar

Katrajn is located near Nagar, a beautiful old town perched high in the mountains, east of the Beas River. The town will make you famous! great castle. Although the access to the castle is not easy, tourists never regret the effort, what they put on, to get here.

Nagar Castle At times, when Nagar was the main city of the Kulu Valley, the seat of the rajah was in the castle. W 1660 r. the capital was moved to Sultanpur, today's Kulu. The castle is guarded by a fort with a peculiar appearance. From the verandas built around it, you can admire the slope of the valley that slopes steeply downwards. In the castle courtyard there is a small temple with a stone plaque with an informative inscription, that the bees had brought her to this temple.

Temples There are several noteworthy temples in the vicinity of the castle. Built of gray sandstone, the Gauri Sankar temple is situated near the bazaar, below the castle. It's a sanctuary, dedicated to Shiva, comes from the 11th or 12th century. The temple of the god Vishnu Chatar Bhuj is surprisingly small, located in front of the castle. The uphill road leads to the pagoda-like temple of Devi Tripury Sundri Even higher is the temple of Murlidhara Krishna.

Roerich Gallery Behind the Castle, also on the road leading uphill, there is the Roerich Gallery. In a beautiful old building, a collection of works by the deceased St. 1947 r. Professor Nicholas Roerich and his son Svetoslav Roerich, who died in Bangalore in 1993 r. One of the reasons, for which it is worth going to the museum, it has a wonderful location and wonderful views of the valley below.

Accommodation The Castle Hotel run by HPTDC has a good reputation (ul6); accommodation must be booked well in advance (reservations are made by the tourist office in Kulu). The hotel offers ten places in a dormitory (45 INR), four double rooms with shared bathroom too 125 INR and seven larger double rooms with private bathroom from 250 do 400 INR. Overnight in a triple room costs money 200 INR.

Opposite the castle, near the post office, is located on Poonam Mountain Lodge & Rcstaurant (12). The owner is happy to help and organize trips to the mountains. Tourists have large rooms at their disposal 200 INR. Meals and packages for excursions can also be booked on site.

Cheaper accommodation is offered by the French-run Aliance Guest House, at the top of Nagaru. Forrest Rest House is one of the budget hotels.
