ACCOMMODATION

The cheapest accommodation

There are no cheap hotels in Delhi. You pay for the most ordinary one here 120 INR. For the same price outside the city of Delhi, you can get a pretty comfortable double room with a bathroom.
Usually, cheap accommodation is looking for Paharganja and in the Janpath region (Janpath) in the south of Connaught Place in New Delhi. Paharganj is cheaper, more popular and with a wider choice of hotels than Connaught Place. It is located at the New Delhi Railway Station, halfway between the old and the new part of the city.

There are quite a few low-end hotels in Old Delhi itself. They are colorful, noisy and remote from New Delhi, where the offices are concentrated, agencies, airline offices and other facilities, important to most travelers. One should bear in mind the difficult public transport.

Camping Tourist Camp (*3272898) it is one of the cheapest places to stay and very popular. It is located in Old Delhi, at distance 2 km od Connaught Place, at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, near Delhi Gate (Brama Dehli), on the opposite side of J P Narayan Hospital (Irwin Hospital). It has good bus connections. Most shipping companies book accommodation here. From here there are also direct buses to Kathmandu. The campsite is run by retired Indian Army officers. Own tent 25 INR, single / double without bathroom 90/130 INR. No revelation, but okay. Many travelers praise this place. The camp site has a restaurant and luggage storage. Wanting to go somewhere, you can successfully leave your belongings here.

Qudsia Gardens Tourist Camp (*2523121) it is located directly across from the interstate bus station, across the street. Tent 30 INR per person, regular one / two 80/100 INR, room of a higher standard 150 INR. If you want to take the morning bus from the train station, an overnight stay in Qudsia Gardens will be fine. Besides, the campsite doesn't stand out with anything special.

Connaught Place i okolice Janpath

(Dźanpath) There are several cheap hotels next to the government tourist office. They are small and crowded, but it is easy to meet traveling companions here. They are also centrally located. For poorer tourists, they rent beds in a common room. Many of these hotels are very popular and there is often a shortage of vacancies. It is best to wait for the bed to be vacated in a nearby dormitory. Usually it does not take more than a day.

The most famous is Ringo Guest House (*3310605), Scindia House 17, next to the tourist office down a side street. It has been serving tourists for many years, has as many followers, what and die-hard opponents. Nevertheless, still popular. In a crowded 14-seater room, a bed costs money 60 INR, single / double without bathroom 160/180 INR and 210/260 INR with bathroom. For 50 INR you can sleep on the roof terrace on an Indian braided bed (jarpoj). The rooms are small, but neat, showers and toilets clean. You can grab a bite to eat on the roof terrace, although it is more expensive here than in other restaurants. Luggage storage is asking for exorbitant sums: 7 INR per day for one piece of luggage.

Sunny Guest House has similar prices (*3312909), Scindia Housel52, a couple of gates further down the same side street. A bed in a common room: 60 INR, single / double without bathroom from 90/170 INR do 120/250 INR. Just like in Ringo, the rooms are small, but the place is charming. Thanks to its location, the hotel attracts many tourists. You also pay for the storage of one piece of luggage 7 INR for the day.

On the west side of Janpath, along Janpath Lane, there are several hotels, which have recently created a legend similar to Ringo and Sunny. Mrs Colaco’s (*3328758) under no. 3 is the first one. An Indian woven bed in a fairly large room costs money 55 INR, two without a bathroom 135 INR. The hotel offers a laundry service, luggage storage and safe deposit of valuables. Around the corner, also on Janpath Lane, at the Pratap Singh Building 7 there is one more legendary Mr S C Jain's Guest House. The most ordinary room without a bathroom, depending on the size, it costs from 150 do 170 INR. The advantage of the last two hotels is their location in a quiet area.

Hotel Bright (*3320444), section M Connaught Circus 85, opposite the Super Bazaar. Nothing good could be said about the hotel, except this one, that is not the worst yet. Dark and not very pleasant rooms with private bathroom 250/300 INR. At, which overlook the street, can be noisy.

Hotel Palace Heights (*3321419), section D Connaught Place, has moderate prices. Situated right next to Nirula's Hotel, is located on the third floor of the office building. The huge porch overlooking Connaught Place is a wonderful place, to have breakfast or afternoon tea. The conditions here are truly primitive, but the place is tranquil and steeped in a small-town atmosphere. Single / double room without bathroom plus air-cooler (cool air blowing) 175/285 INR, air-conditioned doubles with bathroom 480 INR.

Hotel Ashok Yatri Niwas (*3324511), 10 minutes walk from Connaught Place, Ashoka Rd at the junction with Janpath. It operates under the aegis of the ITDC and reports to the government. Huge (556 rooms), is a service disaster. Over the past few years, he has built a terrible reputation for himself. Who values their mental health, let him avoid this place absolutely. Normal activities, such as arranging and releasing a room take more than half an hour, the service is terrible, he acts gruff at best, the hotel is drowning in dirt, the linen on the beds is worn, you have to ask for a blanket on your knees, and the elevators probably only somehow hadn't come down yet. The views from the windows of the upper floors would bring relief. Unfortunately, you can't see much through dirty windows! And it's all yours for one only 250/350 INR. It's hard to stay here for even a week. If anyone does, deserves mountains of gold and… professional medical care!
