In the village of Borová Lada in south-west Bohemia close to the German and Austrian borders, MEI Moravia is building a new residential complex of the same name Low-energy housescomprising 11 detached family houses and 27 three-apartment houses of a total of 81 residential units for both recreational and permanent living. The first houses are already under construction and the new residents will be able to move in during the course of the next year.

The project is sensitively incorporated into the surrounding countryside and fits in superbly with the local landscape of Šumava national park on whose boundaries it is located. The low-energy houses with superb heating insulation are inspired by the traditional architecture of Šumava cottages with great emphasis placed on the environment and conserving nature. Future residents will certainly appreciate the use of natural materials – solid wood, local stone, lime plaster and shingle – which are not only aesthetic, but also practical and fit in beautifully with the local surroundings. The houses boast ample glass areas which utilize passive solar energy. Slinding shutters enable residents to create shade in summer and in winter secure the house during the owner’s absence. The architectural design is by Adam Rujbr Architects architectural practice which has vast experiences in the design of environmentally friendly houses.

In addition to pleasant living in the midst of meadows and forests, new residents will certainly appreciate the many sports and recreational activities available in the area. Nature lovers will find here numerous places for going on walks and trips. Šumava national park and its best attractions are definitely worth a visit, for instance, Boubínský prales (Boubín Forest). The entire area is a paradise for cyclists and horse riding lovers. Borová Lada is an oasis for winter skiing enthusiasts. The popular Horská Kvilda resort with its dozens of kilometrs of tracks adapted for cross-country skiers is nearby, as is the Zadov-Churáňov with its downhill skiing tracks. Those who are interested in culture and history can visit, for instance, the town of Český Krumlov which is included in the UNESCO heritage list.
