baumaticjpg.jpegAn interview with Mr.Enzo Balestrazzi, Group President of Baumatic, on his choice of Liberec as headquarters for Central and Eastern European operations… and some thoughts about the art of tango

Please tell us when and how you, and Baumatic, arrived in the Czech Lands.
In 1997 while visiting a possible distributor in the Czech Republic, I realised the potential of this developing market. Its geographical location made it look an ideal position for expanding our activities in Central and Eastern Europe. I very quickly decided to set up first Baumatic ČR for domestic trading then the Holding company from where the group could be controlled.
To all this I must confess that I found the place quite enchanting and anew experience to be lived.

Please tell us why you located your headquarters in Liberec. Can you describe some of the benefits of locating your activities in this country, and specifically in Liberec.
The choice of Liberec for our head office and logistic center was surely an easy one. This city was in full expansion mode, few years behind Prague, the land and the buildings were cheaper and everything seemed to be falling into the right place with a good availability of staff at all levels.
Also extremely important for my decision was Liberec’s proximity to the Polish and German border.
Today, from our logistic center we supply not only the domestic market but also Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Austria.

Please tell us about your future plans for your company.
Perhaps this is not a very good time to talk about great plans and great ideas given that we are living in the most acute economic crisis that anybody can remember. However, the crisis will pass and life will go on. We do have great plans for the future, even now we are introducing some of the most exciting and revolutionary appliances that our industry has seen over the past 20 years. We intend to continue the way we started — to lead the industry in design and user friendliness. As times will get better, we will push even harder in this direction in order to reinforce our position in the market where we are present and to occupy the ones where we are not. Shortly we would like to land in the United States.

Finally, we understand that you are an accomplished dancer. Is there anything you fell our readers should know about the art of Tango?
Dancing in general is a very good way to release our inner selves and fly off the daily realities of life. Tango in particular, at least for me, is the highest form of dancing. Its mix of nostalgia and sensuality, macho behaviour and kindness, domination and veneration, make it almost away of life. You enter adream, you live it on the dance floor and, why not, you remember it when at work. You might have noticed that awhole series of appliances, all in warm red, carry the name of Baumatic Tango.
